How many is too many?

Facebook has been around since 2004. I myself did not join until 2009. I started off with just a few friends and now I have close to 1,000. Most of my "friends" on there I never will see or talk to. I use to just add people just because I went to school with them or met them one time. I am more particular now that I have aged some and to be honest I am not post as much as I use to. It is just not a thing a worry about anymore.
I do have a really good friend though (one that has to be the center of attention at all times). You know the friend...the really loud one that loves drama! We are complete opposites and she gets on my nerves at times, but I love her for some strange reason. The point is that she adds EVERYONE on Facebook. I mean she will add for example my boyfriend's friend's cousin that HE only has met like twice. I forgot to mention that her and I date brothers so it is not as weird as it sounds to be adding one my my boyfriend's friend's whoever, but it is still like why did she add them? I guess if I were being a good friend I would say she is doing it for networking so let's just go with that! I mean really... 1,600 friends is a little much. I even have too many and now that I actually looked I have more like 900 and about 800 of those people I do not talk to.
Who am I though to say how many is too many. I do like to scroll through my feed and see who all is getting married, engaged, having babies, and other major life milestones. It seems that people have so many friends to escape their own reality and to feel like they are more connected than they really are. Not sure. How many people are you connected with?

  1. I really liked this post- its funny and its totally relatable. when i first got facebook, I friended everyone if i recognized their name- now every time i log on there is a new person Im unfriended because i simply do not know them or care about what they are doing. I definitely think people should be more thoughtful when it comes to friending people on facebook

  2. I really enjoyed this. You have a strong voice in your writing. Logically, I couldn't imagine adding everyone. I have strangers of all ages from places I have never traveled to trying to add me as a friend, and I couldn't imagine wanting to share my information with these people. Although, I do admit that I have clicked the "add friend" button on a few notifications without even looking at the name of the person requesting to add me.
